Jim’s Gunsmithing Owner and Gunsmith Jim York has been a gunsmith for over 30 years. He graduated from the Colorado School of Trades in gunsmithing in 1980, and has worked as a gunsmith in Colorado, Arizona, New Hampshire, and New York.

He moved to the Kingston area of upstate New York in 1983, and soon began work as the Shop Foreman at Numrich Arms Gun Parts Corp. He worked there for seven years before leaving in 1990 to start his own gunsmithing shop in nearby Olivebridge.

Jim has had a life-long love of guns, hunting, and fishing. He grew up on Long Island, New York. As a boy, his grandfather often took him pheasant hunting in the fields and woods that were then common around Huntington. He would also go up to his grandfather’s cabin in New Hampshire to hunt ruffed grouse and woodcock, as well as rabbits, squirrels and woodchuck.

In 1975 he joined the U.S. Navy as a Gunners Mate Gunner E-5, and was stationed aboard the USS Hermitage. He was honorably discharged in June 1981.

Jim is an avid target, skeet, trap, and handgun shooter, as well as hunter and fisherman. He has hunted in Alabama, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Ohio. He has hunted mule deer, White-tailed deer, javelina, pronghorn antelope, Mouflon ram, duck, goose, Pheasant, Ruffed Grouse, Chukar Partridge, Wild Turkey, quail, woodcock, doves, coyote and other varmints.

Jim is a fully licensed New York State Gunsmith and New York State Firearms Dealer, and holds a Federal Firearms License (FFL).

He is a member of the National Rifle Association, Marbletown Sportsman’s Club, Bushkill Rod & Gun Club, and Lake Katrine Rod & Gun Club, the Olive NY Fire Department, and American Legion Post 1623.

Jim is known for his professionalism, work ethic, integrity, and vast knowledge of guns and gunsmithing gained from a lifetime of experience in the industry.
